Global
There are many ways to solve the problem of deforestation on a global scale. The punishments for breaking laws prohibiting illegal logging and burning of forests or rainforests could be made more severe. This would discourage people to engage in these activities because there would be a more severe consequence. Laws could also be made to ensure the sustainability of companies that use tree products. This would make sure that global companies are being sustainable and not contributing to deforestation. The reasons I provided are two ways that deforestation can be solved on a global scale.
National
There are also many ways that Canada and other countries can help stop deforestation as a nation. First, the government could help farmers to find space for farmland that would not cut in to forests as much. This would make sure that large areas of trees are not cut or burned down to make room for farmland and it would also make use of unused land. Another way to help at a national level is for countries to limit the size of cities and towns. Many trees are cut down due to growing citiesand limiting this will greatly reduce deforestation. Finally, the government could protect more green spaces from development. Protected areas should be looked after and protected by diseases and fires, trees should also be planted there so that we take advantage of the areas protected status.There are many ways that deforestation can be reduced by a nation.
Local
There are also ways that deforestation can be reduced as a local community. Projects could be created to plant trees on unused land. If there is a large, unused area (E.g an abandoned factory) it can be cleaned up and the community could plant trees on the property. This could be paid for with community fundraisers. There could also be community projects planned to plant more trees in local green spaces. For example if there is a childrens playground, trees could be planted around the edges. Deforestation can be reduced, even on a local scale.
Individual
There are many ways that I can help with the reduction of deforestation. First, I could show support for companies that use sustainable methods of gaining tree products. I could support these companies by buying their products whenever possible, this would also reduce my eco-footprint. Another way I could help reduce deforestation is to donate money to charities who work to stop deforestation in major forests and rainforests. Donating money would help them carry on with their good work. Lastly, I could help with community projects that involve planting trees. Helping with this type of community projects means I am helping increase the number of trees in my area. There are lots of ways that I, individually, can help with the terrible issue of deforestation.
